CS110 Lab Visit

Activate your CS account and log in
on any of the NT machines in the lab.

If you're logged in, you have already done this. Skip to the next step.

Otherwise, you are looking at someone else's screen and you should do the
following to activate your CS account:

If you previously had a Computer Sciences account, then use the same user
name and password to login. Login to your CS account and skip to Step 2.
(NOTE: If you don't remember your password, you must go to with your Student
ID to the Computer Systems Lab Room 2350cs and have them reset your password.)

If you are a new student you must activate your account.

Click the "NewUser" button at the bottom of the login panel.

Follow the instructions on the screen for setting up your account and password.
Keep your password secret. (NOTE: You must have three "types" of characters
in your password.)

Write down your user name, you will need this to login. (NOTE: In most
cases, it is not the same as your "students" email account.)

Log in to your CS account and continue with Step 2.

Start Netscape Navigator Web Browser.

If you're looking at this page from your own CS account, you have already
done this. Skip to the next step.

Otherwise, you are looking at someone else's screen and you should do the
following to start Netscape:

Click on "Start" at the lower-left corner of the display.

Click on "Programs".
-
Move your mouse over "Netscape Commumicator" and another "Netscape Communicator"
pops up.

Click on it to start the web browser.
NOTE: The above sequence of steps is often shown as:
Start -> Programs -> Netscape Communicator -> Netscape Communicator

In the location bar type the following and press Enter:
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~cs110/
This gets you to the lab visit instructions page.

Visit the CS110 Class Page.
Start by opening a new Netscape Navigator window. First click on the
Navigator window with these instructions. Then type ctrl-N. A new
Navigator window should appear. Now visit the CS110 Class Page with this
new window. There are three ways you can do this:

By Clicking, starting from the CS Home Page:

Grad -> Courses Offered -> CS110 (All Lectures)

Bookmark this page by choosing Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark

By entering the URL:
-
Press Ctrl+O and select the entire text in the location window (click and
drag over it or press Shift+End).

Type "http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~cs110/" and press Enter.

Bookmark this page by choosing Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark
-
By selecting the bookmark: (this only works once you've set a Bookmark)

Bookmarks -> CS110 Fall 2000
-
Be sure to explore each of the links
from the menu on the left.
Here's a checklist of most (if not all)
menu items:

Check your email.
You'll have to use Netscape Communicator to do this.

You can forward your CS email to a
different email account.
If you want to automatically forward any email that is sent to your
CS account to a different account (like your students.wisc.edu account
or ...@hotmail.com, etc.), the CSL
FAQ (frequently asked questions) Documentation tells how.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE YOU RECEIVE
AND READ ALL EMAIL SENT TO YOUR CS ACCOUNT.

LOG OUT!

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to the login panel.

Choose the "Logoff" button at the bottom of the panel.
DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU LEAVE
