Upgrading involves installing a newer general release than the current installation on your computer, for example, from R2019b to R2020a. The Software Maintenance Service on your license must be current. For additional information, see MathWorks Software Maintenance Service on the MathWorks® website.
To upgrade an existing installation:
Run the MATLAB® installer. If you do not have it on your computer, you can get it from the Downloads page on the MathWorks website.
Install the upgrade in a new installation folder, whether you are upgrading from a previous version or upgrading from a prerelease version of the same release.
You do not need to delete an existing MATLAB installation before installing a new release. Each release is independent of previous releases and you can run multiple releases on the same computer.
Note
The upgrade installs only those products currently on your license. For example, if your existing installation includes ten products, but your current license includes only nine of those products, your MATLAB installation upgrade will include only the nine products.
